The Call > The Life > Rev. Joseph Trinh

Name: Rev. Joseph Trinh

What first awakened in you the realization that God might be calling you to the priesthood?
When my friend in high school asked me if I wanted to so to the seminary with him (he never did apply).

What were your initial excitements and hopes as you began to think more deeply about our vocation?
I could help people more as a priest than I could if I became a physician.

At what point in your life did you enter the seminary?  (i.e. after high school/college/job experience)
after high school, but right before I was to enter LaSalle College on a scholarship.

What do you value most about your vocation to the priesthood?  What has made your choice of a vocation “worth it” to you?
To be able to celebrate Mass. To be with people in times of happiness, (baptism, weddings), but also in times of sadness, (sickness, funerals).

What is the most challenging part of the priesthood for you at this time?
To know everything I need to know to serve God’s people and to be available to everyone at anytime.

What are your hobbies?
Fishing, traveling.

What does your “typical” day look like?
Mass, office work, visiting the sick, planning, attending meeting.

What would you say, from your own experience, is the most compelling reason that a young man should consider a vocation the priesthood?
You are needed. You are wanted. We (priests) need you, the people need you and God needs you.
