Name: Sean Loomis Class: Pre-Theology I

Parish: Saint Denis, Havertown

What year did you enter the seminary?
2007

What did you do prior to seminary entrance?
I studied Philosophy and Theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville.

What influenced your decision to enter the seminary?
The continual growth of my spiritual life, especially time spent before the Blessed Sacrament, largely influenced my decision to enter the seminary. I seek the Lord whose voice I’ve come to know.

Why do you want to be a priest?
I believe the priesthood is the vocation the Lord has chosen as the means of my salvation and the salvation of others.

What did your family and friends think about your decision to enter the seminary?

Many of my family and friends rejoiced in my decision because they knew it was coming; however, others, though supportive, prefer that I live a more ordinary life.

What do you do for fun?
Some of my greatest activities for pleasure include playing ultimate frisbee, going out to dinner, and reading spiritual books.

Who is your favorite Saint?
My favorite saint, my patron Saint is John the Beloved. John remained with Jesus at His darkest hour and reclined on His breast. John stood by the Blessed Mother and thus lived as a disciple of Jesus and Mary.

What advice would you give to a young man thinking about the seminary?

My advice is often heard but less often followed: Do not be afraid. Seek first the Kingdom of God and all else follows. The Church needs good men and the Lord chooses the weak with the strong.
