Sean Loomis
Class: Pre-Theology II
Parish: Saint Denis, Havertown
What year did you enter the seminary? 2007
What did you do prior to seminary entrance?
I studied Philosophy and Theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville.
What influenced your decision to enter the seminary?
The biggest influence in my life was the witness of a parish priest as Christ for the world.
Why do you want to be a priest?
I want to be a priest because I believe it is God’s will. However, the joy of bringing Christ to the Church through the holy sacraments and the gift of a life of total sacrifice excites me.
What did your family and friends think about your decision to enter the seminary?
Because a vocation to the priesthood is counter-cultural, my decision was hard for my family. As time passes, however, they become more and more comfortable with my decision.
What do you do for fun?
My favorite activities include sports, movies, and meals with friends. I enjoy spiritual reading and I’m currently learning the game of golf.
Who is your favorite Saint?
John Paul II, although not yet canonized, inspires me the most, because he is a modern saint. He demonstrates, for me, the power of Christ revealed through total surrender. May I be half the priest he was on earth.
What advice would you give to a young man thinking about the seminary?
Do not be afraid! You do not walk alone, but the Lord walks with you. Let not your discernment overwhelm you. Come to the seminary to visit, and most importantly pray. Pray, pray, pray. Seek God in the silence of your heart, and do your part to discern. I know no greater joy than to live the life of a holy priest of God.
